You’ve booked your vacation in Mykonos and you’re worrying about the budget you’ll need for those days? Well, we are here to inform you that the Island of the Winds does not offer only expensive and luxurious options, as you might usually hear. Especially in the “food” category, there are solutions that combine quality, quantity and affordable prices. Mykonos Post presents five of them:
Karteri
Looking for a place in Mykonos that offers quality appetizers, large portions and affordable prices? Then Karteri is what you’re looking for. In a small, but beautifully decorated space very close to Mykonos’ Chora (next to the airport), Karteri will delight you with its flavors and the view it offers, as its courtyard looks out to the sea and to the horizon. Don’t skip on the meatballs, sausage, kebab and chicken, for which it is famous, but also give a chance to its top of the line liver fry. Also, if you’re lucky, you might happen to enjoy a live music night, to close off your day in the most beautiful and entertaining way.

Amethystos
Another tavern located near the airport is Amethystos, known for its authentic Greek flavors and large portions. The view from this place is delightful, which makes it an ideal choice for dining at sunset, while watching the sun disappear into the horizon. On the menu, you’ll find dishes inspired by the Mediterranean cuisine, Greek flavors and options that carry the “aroma” of the sea. However, you can’t leave Amethystos without trying its famous tsipouro and, of course, pairing it with its tasty appetizers, such as the hearty meat platter.

Mpalothies
In Ornos you can find Mpalothies, a restaurant that is a must-visit place for many on the island. The large portions, the quality, the variety and the affordable prices will make you choose it with your eyes closed. Certainly not with your nose closed, however – as soon as you approach the restaurant, the smells give you an idea of the culinary experience that will follow. Salads, Cretan appetizers and raki are the options you should definitely choose, while we would also recommend the kalitsounia (Cretan stuffed pastries), which smell of tradition. Finally, the music creates a lovely ambiance, with the rebetiko and Cretan melodies taking you on a journey.

Maizevelo
If you want to try flavors “like grandma’s” as we say, then Maizevelo is probably your top choice in Mykonos. Located just outside Chora, its dishes focus on local recipes and the traditional Greek cuisine. It is especially known for its appetizers and every day there is a daily-special, such as Mykonian meatballs and beef liver, accompanied by house tsipouro and wine. With its simple decoration and wooden elements, the space instantly makes you feel that you’ve found your next hangout. Plus: The prices are very affordable, while the portions will satisfy even the most demanding foodie.

Limnios
For more than 20 years, the tavern Limnios, in the Agios Stafanos area, welcomes its guests who come to taste its Greek flavors. In a privileged location, with an unobstructed view of the sea, Limnios offers tasty options, from meats and various appetizers to seafood and pasta dishes. Of course, you shouldn’t skip trying the wine, which pairs harmoniously with all of the above. In fact, there is a picturesque courtyard at the back of the tavern for the summer months, so you can sit with your friends or family and enjoy your food outside. Remember to try the famous pastrami pie, the tzatziki, and the homemade-like dolmadakia – you will not regret it!
